When I picked-up my L I asked the salesperson if the truck came with a front mount. It did. He claimed the L is a "Specialty Vehicle"
and doesn't require a front plate by law. He said, if pre-drilled holes were made in the bumper as if someone else had a mount and then removed it, it could be a violation not have one on the vehicle. I have noticed guide marks in the bumper for drilling. I have yet to get stopped by 50 in the truck for a license plate infraction. During EAA this year, I was taking pictures on a dead end road was approached by a cop. He asked me if the truck was Stolen:D never bothered to see paperwork or even my D.L. Funny thing was he claimed to have seen an Orange L days earlier. I had correct his statement and say yeah I have seen the Dodge also.
My SVT Focus on the other hand had a front mount when I picked it up. I never bothered to remove it.
My Stang had holes drilled in the front bumper when I bought it used. I remember being stopped 4 times for not having a front plate. Wasn't ticketed. To me fr. plates are like seeing wheel weights on the outside of the wheel:mad:
The best lie I gave a Cop to get out of a ticket so far was that I had an upset stomach (hershey squirts). I has doing about 90mph in a 30mph zone when I was coming out of a turn and saw a Deputy Sheriff at a County Garage. He didn't have me on radar, but saw me and I slowed to a stop. He got out without even running plate, Oh that's right it wasn't on the car:wtf:
A co-worker told me it worked for him.
Okay I am done now

I'm not sure where these salespeople come up with some of this stuff but front plates are indeed required in Wisconsin. Front plate holders come unattached from the factory because some states do not require them but in Wisconsin you or the dealer are to install them and use them. SVT dealers have learned that people don't like them and will usually leave them off. Whenever I "order" a vehicle, I write it into the contract that the front plate and dealer sticker are not to be installed just to make sure.
I know of at least 3 people who have gotten a ticket for it. A bill comes up in the legislature every so often to eliminate the plate under the arguement that it is a waste of money to issue front plates. Unfortunately, the law enforcement lobby always finds a way to strike it down as they believe it to be a help in indentifying cars when traveling the opposite direction.
With that said, I have never driven a car with a front plate since 1981 and never been stopped (for that at least :D ). Just lucky I guess.

Then he was full of s*** :)
In wisconsin, a front plate is required on all normal road vehicles. I'm not positive about commercial and larger weight rating trucks, but no svt falls into any of those categories.
That said I've run no front plate on my L since the day I got it and never had a problem. I know plenty of people who have gotten pulled over for it though. All depends how cop-free you want your cruising diet to be I guess :)

Around here it seems cops target the beaters with the possibility of getting them for more than 1 citation.
The Stang always attracted alot of attention. The L, they just think Truck, no biggie.
Corvettes have a molded front something in the bumper. If you carry your front plate with you and present it to the Officer does that count? It's just like gambling.
I have 20% tint on the L's windows. I know it's illegal. We could discuss this all day.
Whenever I see a European car profiled in R&T it always has a front plate. Is that so we know?
:wtf:

Funny story:
my girlfriend's dad was a state trooper when I met her (retired now though).
First time I met him, he pulled in his driveway in the cruiser and my truck was parked there. He comes in the house, and says, "whose truck is that?" I said "mine." He said, "it's got illegal tint, no front plate, modified exhaust, and I'm not sure about those tail lights". My girlfriend says "Meet dave, my boyfriend."
I assured him that the taillights were legal. :D
He is/was cool with it though, occasionally taking the time to razz me about it. :
"Hey dave, I got the tint meter home from work this weekend, what do you say we go test your windows?" I say "nope. " :)

Nope, one of the 3 tickets I mentioned was exactly what you described. The Corvettes come (or came, not sure if they are still like this) with a kind of knockout plate where the license plate goes and looks pretty good. However, the State Trooper didn't care what was there instead of the plate; the plate wasn't on the car in its proper place, end of story. The Corvette guy was just a little unhappy to say the least.

Why did the Trooper suspect you had the exhaust modified? I am guessing because it didn't exit in the traditional location or it was idling.
It would have LOOKED sooooo much better if the exhaust would have exited on both sides. :knock:
Know of anyone to make the mod.

There are 2 reasons I know of why it did not or could not exit both sides.
First was safety, they did not want people filling the gas tank over hot exhaust tips. :wow:
The second was the stock F-150 gas tank location prevents routing the pipes to that side without major modification to the standard platform.
There are guys who have put both dummy pipes and working pipes on this side but they are very few and far between. If you search NLOC and F150online, I am sure you could find examples of some of these set-ups.
