:)
Looking at replacing the factory air box on my L. Wanting some feedback as to which set-up to go with. So many to choose from. Paul's Hi-Perf. has a decent looking intake for $170 with discount.
For all the L owners, let me know what worked for you. It looks very restricted as far as air flow.
Thanks again

I had a MAC cold air. Worked good enough for me. Really made the supercharger louder and more responsive. There are so many out there, the other L owners should pipe in too.

It all depends on what your looking for. If you want to hear your supercharger whine then take off your airbox and put a cone filter on, you won't beleive how loud your supercharger is running it this way. This is a never ending topic on the forums like NLOC and SVT Performance and others.
Some will say a cold air intake is the way to go because you will be bringing in the outside air which will most allways be cooler then the air under the hood if your using a cone filter. Once the vehicle is moving the outside air will find its way to your cone filter and the underhood air temp should be close to whatever the outside temp is.
Ever wonder why the factory airbox is enclosed, one reason is to help keep intake noise down and the other is to keep the hot engine air out of the intake. I personaly think the enclosed intake is the way to go if your looking for performance. What I mean is this, if your stopped and you nail it with a enclosed intake the incomming air will be whatever the outside air temp is. If you do the same thing with just a cone filter it will be sucking in the hot underhood air. Our truck allways run better when it is cooler outside vs hot outside. The cooler the air you have going into your intake the better your performance will be.
How much performance will you gain with a enclosed intake vs a cone filter, probably not very much. I have a cone filter in my L and there is nothing like blower whine, its addictive.

MM&FF "claim" gains of 1-2 lbs. of boost and 15-20 HP with a cold-air system. I 'm sure different ones have different gains. Just about every article I have read pertaining to mods says to get of the factory air box. I like the whining and would like to hear more of it.
Thanks for the response

Oh yea you will get a little more boost with a cone filter or any other intake system:)

I found the one. The Chicken-Ears Cool Aid Stage 3. Looks like a winner.

If you're looking to save cash you can do the old "cut out the bottom of the stock airbox" trick and put a k&N panel filter in there. You'llstill get more blower noise with the cone though. I think as far as underhood air is concerned, it's a wash. You're talking maybe a tenth in the 1/4 mile on the right day, the difference between an open and closed element filter. I wouldn't count on getting any specific boost increase, mine probably read about 1lb more. Not sure if there's SOTP difference or if it just feels stronger because of all the noise. If you go with those midpipes, you won't hear the blower without a cone.
I will say, with only the open element filter on my truck, an FTVB, and stock pullies I was pretty fast. Maybe I just have a factory freak though. (13.22@103) I'm more convinced it's air quality that did it though.
I went with the LFP setup, completely exposed 12" cone filter, no box. Sounds great. Probably doesn't filter the best, but then cotton-wire-gauze filters aren't exactly something you go with if you're concerned with completely filtered air entering your engine right? :)
