Any Wisconsinites drive the L all winter long? Not with the stock set-up, but a winter set-up. How does it handle? I plan on possibly using a Winterforce tire from the Tire Rack 235-70/16 on a 16x8 wheel.

I would love to baby her and keep it stored this winter, but I have access to a heated garage to keep her looking good. I drive about 12 miles round trip to work all city.

Furthermore, I will proud to say, I drive this year round!

:wow:

Had mine in an ice storm once, and it will never be in one again. I nearly crapped myself every time I had to give it any gas.

I had a '94 L as a daily driver and it was great in the winter. I replaced it with a '99 L intending to use it as my daily driver. I drove it in about a quater inch of snow when I first got it and it was nearly undrivable IMO. Fortunately, I got a company car shortly after that so I didn't have to worry about it anymore and can now keep the L off the road in bad weather.

The tag in your drivers door frame says that the tires are not recommended for use in snow and I believe them after my experience. Search some of the L forums. I think alot of guys who drive year round buy some Expedition wheels and mount some snow tires on for the winter.

Yeah, and I'll tell you bald f1's don't work in ice either :D

Hey Keith,
I had mine out in fresh snow once, just in my driveway to take some pictures. Needless to say, it took me about 25 minutes to get it back into the garage! Mine is garaged when the white stuff starts to fly. I've heard of alot of guys from NLOC forums say they run them in the winter with many sand bags and different tires. It's doable, just not recommended! LOL

You guys need to lighten up on the pedal.

One of my best winter vehicles was a 94 GT with 16" Blizzaks on it. I put four 25# shot bags around the spare tire. And I drove as I felt comfortable with how the tires felt. I typically would accelerate as good as a basic SUV and could stop WAY better.

Its not about getting the same Quater Mile out of it. Its about getting more than the guy next to you. :)

I would suggest coming up with a way to strap some weight behind the wheel wells, like in a box, etc, with a strap. Get the most weight shift posible with the least weight. If you are driving a performace vehicle in the winter, get real winter treads. Not just plain old All-season M/S. Ones that require you to take them off when its over 40 degrees. They work very well when its cold.

Edit:
Oh, and careful until you get used to the cars limits.

I am not afraid of weather in the Mystic....just the SALT!!! :wow:

Did anyone catch the info on the wheels & spare??
wheels 205/50/r17 on 17X 6.0 rims and the
NON matching spare.
225/45 r16 on 16x 7.0 rims!!

Why is the spar so fatt?? that will take up more trunk space.
Must be using the spare to balance the car.

And what makes an SRT-4 any better for winter? :p

There are many reasons to give Dean a hard time, buying a Dodge is only reason number 3.

I noticed on the window sticker that "SRT Track Time" is the last item listed under Standard Equipment. Does that mean that buyers get track time at a high speed drivers school or just test time the SRT has spent time on the track?

I drove mine last winter with some winterforce tires on 16x8 cragar soft 8 rims. $400 bucks for rims/tires from tirerack and summit... Didn't have any problems with it.

Thanks. I was going to spend $820 on a set-up from the Tire Rack. Can't really justify spending $129 per wheel from the Rack on a winter wheel.

I got Hankook Ice Bears and I loved them. They worked well in the snow and fantasic when it was wet. I think they hook up better then my 295 proxies. I put on the 245 70 16s.

Slicks would help, but I think you could do much better simply doing a good burnout, even with the proxes :D

I put on hankook ice bears. And they work well in light snow.I tested it in my alley where it was 4 inched of hard ice and snow and I couldnt get stuck. I try not to drive it during the snow fall but after it falls and is dry out I drive it in the winter. I got 245/70r 16s and aluminuim16 by 8 inch rims from discount tire for $865.00 to my door.

Looks like the L will be stored after all:D

The winter wheels & tires will be collecting dust.

Good to hear. Wish parking the stang was in the books, but I'm not about to get a beater and have another car hanging around.

:) Plus I got snow tires for it... looking forward to some RWD snow fun.
