My 2003 Cobra owners book indicates that I should use 91 or higher octane. What happens if I use 87 octane instead? And since I have not found anywhere that sells 91 octane (its all higher or lower), can I mix 93 octane and 87 octane about half and half to get about 91 octane?

Well if you like detonation go ahead and use 87 octane. Seriously don't run 87; just say no to 87, your engine will love you for it. If I was you I would run 93 octane all the time. It may cost a little more but it beats haveing to replace your engine when you find a rod sticking out of your block.

Don't do it! run the highest octane you can get (92 or 93) as it helps prevent detonation. Some tuners can tune for 87 octane if you really wanted to but you'd lose a ton of performance out of the car simply because you'd have to detune just to run the crappier gas.

Really though you bought a high performance car, don't worry about the extra 2-3 bux per tank, you'd be better off watching what you do with your foot than you would be trying to baby the thing with 87 octane. That said, in a pinch it will run with it, just STAY OUT OF THE BOOST if you do run it.

Don't bother mixing down to get 91. Just go get 93 whenever u can.

That rating of 91 or above is only because california has 91 octane as thier "premium".
