Caravan to Joliet/Autobahn Friday

I will start some more caravan talk. Friday May 20 meet at the "Park & Ride" at I-94 and College Avenue (the one on the southwest corner) on Milwaukee's south side at 12:30. Leave at 12:30. It is about 120 miles to Joliet from there. That should put us at the hotel around check-in time and give us time to pick a dinner location, have a cocktail, etc......

Bob, are you planning to go down using I-43 to I-39? Preliminary plans for us is to have 2 meeting groups, one at Griffin meeting up with another group at the park and ride at I-43 & 164 leaving from there to go down and miss Chicago traffic. What hasn't been decided is the meeting time.

Personally your plan to leave early enough to be there at check-in is good. I would like to be there early enough to go through tech Friday night to save time Saturday morning.

My "plan" was to take I-94. I-294, I-55 and I-80. I drove that route on Saturday morning. That route goes by O'Hare, but it was not bad at all. The hotel exit is not that far east of the I-80, I-55 junction. My thought is that it may not be to bad early on Friday, either. I-43, 39, etc. is certainly longer, but is probably easier, considering traffic possibilities. I think the key is getting an early start on Friday. Getting tech out of the way is a big deal, too.

My plan may not be so good. My son travelled through the O'Hare area today at 12:30 and traffic was at a standstill! I-43 and I-39 sounds better all the time.

Ok, here's the plan for those planning to caravan down to the Autobahn.

We will have 2 meeting places - Griffin Ford (NE customer parking off of showroom) and the park & ride lot at I-43 and Hwy. 164. The Griffin Ford group will be leaving Griffin heading to the park & ride lot at 12 NOON sharp. We will then be leaving the park & ride at 12:30 PM to the Autobahn. This should get us there in time to check-in to the motel, get to the track for early tech and attend the 5 PM Meet & Greet put on by SVTOA.

If you are late or can't make the meeting times, here are some directions. Take I-43 South to I-39 South to I-80 East to I-55 South. From I-55 take the Arsenal Road exit east 1.6 miles to Millsdale (look for Stephan sign). Turn left on Millsdale and go 1.4 miles (past Stephan plant, watch for Millsdale sign at top of hill). Make another left staying on Millsdale and go about 2 miles to Patterson Road where you will make another left into the Autobahn.
