For the 3rd year running, we will be meeting at Aldo's Pizzaria to watch the 47th running of the Great American Race - The Daytona 500 on February 20. There seems to be some confusion as to the start time. Nascar lists the start time at 12:00 CT but Fox and the Speed Channel list it as 1:00 PM CT. I'm thinking Nascar's time is correct as this is the usual start time for the Daytona festivities to begin. Green flag usually drops about 12:30 PM.

This year in Nascar should be interesting. Can a Rousch driver make it 3 years in a row to win the Championship? Will the new spoiler rules help in making speedway racing more interesting? Can someone, anyone, break DEI's domination of restrictor plate racing? Can Mark Martin make a run at the Championship beginning with what will be his final 500 start in his farewell tour? Will Wisconsin's own Matt Kenseth's Daytona luck change and finally do well in the 500?

I usually invite people to come early to feast on Aldo's breakfast buffet but he has discontinued it. Oh well, more room for some great pizza! The owner, Duane usually has some sort of special on pizza for our group and plenty of cold beer and soda.

We will have some great door prizes as giveaways and will be running our "driver pool" as in the past. So even if you are not a big fan of Nascar racing, come out to Aldo's and enjoy what has become a great event for both the guys and the girls.

Aldo's is at W156 N11058 Pilgrim Road, Germantown, WI 53022 (just south of Mequon Road on Pilgrim) Phone: (262) 255-7777.

Well qualifying had some good Ford news and some bad Ford news. The good is that Dale Jarrett has won the pole for the third time in his career (the last time he won the pole in 2000, he won the race). The bad is that Matt Kenseth's Daytona luck continues as he blew a motor in quaifying and will start in the rear of the second Thursday race for starting position in the 500. Ford drivers Kurt Busch (defending Nextel Champion), Elliot Sadler and Ricky Rudd had top ten times putting them upfront in the the qualifying races on Thursday.

Surprisingly, the best of the 3 DEI cars couldn't muster up a time better than 31st. Looks like the 1/64" smaller restictor plate holes and aero rule changes worked in our favor and should result in a some good racing in the Thursday and Sunday races.

I hope our group has enough fortitude to venture out in a few inches of snow although it appears to be heavier north and west. Hopefully we haven't hit the point where people will stay home.

And no, I will not be goaded into bringing L out today Dean. :p It got enough of a workout yesterday. :D

BTW Dean, parking for Dodges is behind the building. ;)

Where I live it's snowing pretty hard, but Mike really wants to go, so it looks like we'll venture out. Keep in mind Chris, north of Brown Deer road it's colder and we are getting all snow up here.

If anyone can't make it in this little bit of snow, you need to move to a southern location. This is great weather!!!!!:bna:
