I have just finalized the Great Lakes Region track schedule for 2005 and would like to share it with you guys.

May 21-22 - SVTOA On-Track at the Autobahn Country Club. Joliet, IL - Official National On-Track Event. This event will contain a car show in addition to the open track event. We are also going to hold the National Cobra R meet at this event and expect us to break the record of 17 Cobra R's that we had at this years Gingerman Event. Don't make me a liar!!!

July 23-24 - SVT Days at Gingerman, South Haven, MI- Regional track event sponsored by the Southeast Michigan SVTOA Chapter. We sold this event out last year and based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback we should be doing it again next year.

August 19th - Woodward Dream Cruise open track day - This is an event geared towards those with little to no track experience. There are sound restrictions in place at this track that make any car with an open exhaust illegal. This will be part of the Woodward Dream Cruise weekend.

August 27-28 - Putman Park, Mount Meridian, IN - We have FINALLY got a Putman Date!!!! This will be replacing the early Oct IRP date. Putman is a MUCH better track and is a great addition to our Region On-Track Schedule.

I'm excited with this schedule and hope that you guys are as well. It's a nicely spaced schedule at some GREAT tracks. If next years events go as well as the events did in 2004 expect to see us grow even bigger for 2006!

We will be running a promotion called the "Track Dawg Challenge" in 2005. Anyone who attends three of the 4 Regional Track events in 2005 will get an official Great Lakes Region " Track Dawg" shirt along with a decal for your vehicle AND will be entered into a drawing to get your track fee's refunded for the 2005 Great Lakes Region SVTOA Open track events that you attend. Eligible participants MUST be National SVTOA members and MUST attend and pay for at least 3 of the 4 events. The winner will be determined at Putman Park and must be present to win. We've been looking at a fun way to reward our dedicated Track Dawgs and I think that this is a good start.

Thanks for the update Mark. Those look like some great events you have planned. It will be a big help to us at our Annual Meeting this coming Saturday.

Cool.
How hard would it be on my car if I ran at Gingerman? Would I need to replace my brakes afterwards? What about tires? Would they be fried afterwards?
Stock brakes, stock everything except CAI and catback exhaust.

If it's your first event tires and brakes won't be an issue but it's always good to have a spare set of pads just in case you do go through. We can easily change them at the track.

P.S. 2005 Insurance requirements mandate that all convertibles have 4 point roll bars.

Bummer on the roll bar rule, I was already to start booking some rooms:( I had a blast at IRP this last fall and was really looking forward to going again. But I guess those of us with open tops are going to be left out, or commit to full time race cars with a roll bar.

There are many bolt in 4 point rollbars that once installed can be removed and installed in less than 1 hour.

Believe me when I say that this issue was NOT forced by SVTOA but was done by the Insurance company.

I'm a beginner, so I think the Woodward event might be a good one for me. I was thinking about going to the cruise anyways!!

Could someone tell me what track this event is going to be at? Is there any more info available?

Thanks

The event will be at Waterford Hills which is just outside of Detroit. From what I am told it is challenging shorter road course with many elevation changes and a lot of fun.

Here is a link to the track's website: http://www.waterfordhills.com/

We don't have any other info other than what Mark (93SVTCobra) has provided. Watch here and at www.svtoa.com for more details.

Who makes an easily removable rollbar for us vert. owners?

Autopower makes an easily removeable rollbar. Initial installation takes a few hours but once you have the holes drilled and set installation and removeable takes about an hour.

SVTOA is working on an install article and also negotiating a discount for members so stay tuned.

Thanks, I'd like to try an on track event, but cannot bear to cut-up the car.

Don't look at as cutting up the car but instead as putting 16 (or so) very small holes in the floor so that you can enjoy your car to it's fullest!!!:D

A past post talked about a rollbar install article from SVTOA ... and discount for members. Did this ever happen?

Thank You

The discount was listed in the last Enthusiast. I believe that the install article is coming next issue!

I have installed the Auto Power roll bar in a Cobra Vert. A permanent installation requires modifying the upper rear seat cushion as well as the quarter trim panels. The carpet will need to be cut also. A temporary install would not require anything but the holes as Mark said. If you would like to see a completed install, I have one in my garage now for other work. You can call me at 262 993 6605 to see it. If you have any questions, I'd be glad to try to help. Thanks!!
