What better way to spend a cool, crisp autumn day than at the track. :shft

Greg was nice enough to include us in his event he is holding for his Midwest Mustang Association website. This means we race for a low $12.00.

From what Greg tells me, the track should not be as crowded as a normal Saturday as it is later in the year, bracket racing is over for the season and the modifieds are at Byron that weekend. We will have the tent up somewhere off to the side on the grass so we can pit together and Greg will try (no promises) to get a time where we could stage a little shootout between ourselves. In addition, the Northern Illinois SVTOA said they were interested in joining us so depending on who and how many come up, the shootout could be with them instead.

In any case, come on out to test and tune your car or truck. First timers don't be hestitant to join us. We will be happy to guide you through your first visit. It's a lot fun and a chance to really see what your machine can do in the quarter mile . . . legally.

Important: The key to the discount is to say you are with "Greg's car club" at the gate. Please do not abuse this generous discount by inviting or telling everyone and their brother about this opportunity.

Hope to see you at Da Grove! :)

So what was the secret deal on getting discount Drag Radials with your SVTOA card? I could not find it in the vendor support on the national page. Wasn't it from Discount Tire Direct and you had to talk to a specific guy for like 10%?
(Really trying to dig into the old memory banks)

My Nitto's are basically dead at the wear bars; would like 2 new ones before this event.

I didn't have much luck getting an "official" discount. I think Discount Tire dropped its SVTOA discount. However, I did cry the blues the guy on the phone about price and he dropped me another 5% for some kind of a "promotional" discount when I bought Nitto's for the L.

Pit them against Tire Rack pricing and let the best company win.

On the subject of drag radials- Get a REAL set, try the Mickey Thompson ET Street Drag Radials! I have a set on my Cobra, they are insane. No need to do any sort of burnout, getting very low 1.6x 60 foot times. DOT legal, good tread, nice handling manners at the big end. You can get a fantastic price on these at Fast Times Performance in West Allis 414-329-3260. Once again mention "Greg's car club" and John will get you a great deal and NO SHIPPING if you pick them up there.

Marv!!! I hope you come to GLD! I got a little boost myself and I want to see how she stacks up against an '03. :D :D

Oh poop (can you tell I have offspring?), I already ordered the Nitto's. :knock:
Well, given the milage you get out of a set...a second set wont matter. Might try out the MT's too. Thx for the tip Greg!

So street manners are really good eh?
How about rain? The Nittos did okay in the rain; performance sucked (of course!!) but they were very stable and safe

They have a decent tread pattern, but I try to avoid rain at all costs with the level of power I have, so I honestly cannot say how well they work in the rain. I know they hook like MAD though!!!

Greg,by the looks of your mods, my car doesn't have a chance!!!! Then factor in the fact that I suck at drag racing and you'll have to give me about a 5 second head start. But i'll give it my best shot. Marv Z

I might be there. I've only had the Lightning down twice now. It will give me a little more practice.

Called John at Fast Times...he said the 275/40/17's are like 6 months behind schedule. He needs a set for his own Mustang and they told him April and they are still not here.

I'll try again in spring and live with the Nitto's. :wtf:
Wish they still made my wheel, I would love to have 2 sets .

I plan to be there with the 01 Cobra. I hope the half shafts hold-up. Oh hell, who cares. Marv will be there to fix it if they break!

For 12 bucks, I believe the Ranger gets a work out at the track. Sounds like a full day of getting my :spanka: It's going to be like being a Milwaukee Brewer for a day.....

Is everyone just meeting at the track, or is there a meeting point? I'm going to try to make it. I have never been to GLD with a rear wheel car so it will be a learning experience for me:shft

I was just wondering if anyone was coming from the north and wanted to meet up and get a couple cars to drive down together from like a park and ride or something... i know it's probably to late to plan this but I'll give it a try

Any news from the strip? I just had too many things going on and had to pass. Who had quick time? Marv Z:(

The turn out wasn't very good, there were only about 7 or 8 of us there. Chris correct me if I'm wrong on this. I thourghly enjoyed the event, I will go there again next year. I did 5 runs, my times ranged from 13.7 to 13.8 at 99 to 100 mph. I will have to work on my tune.

Chris is a brave soul, he ran his brand spanking new L with about 300 miles on her, that is what a warranty is for, right Chris.

Yah was a tad busier than i expected....but then it was a perfect day.

Drag Radial set number 2 was not sticking as good as set number 1. So I failed to beat my 12.5. If I ever get off my can and get there on a Tues right after work, I can practice more with higher run frequency.

Nonetheless, always fun to beat on the car and for $12 and a 15 min drive...cant be beat.

Thanx to Greg for getting us in cheap!!

It was a perfect day for racing. We started early, by 9:30AM cars were making passes and we ran right up to 8:00PM.

I had clutch problems but saw trap speeds in the 122 MPH range, which made me very happy.

If you didn't make it to this one, well guess what guys? We're having another one! Come and race on October 30th! 9:00AM to 5:00PM, same deal- $12.00 to race.

Season's almost over guys, get your racing in while you can.
