Hello all,
I'm new to the Lightning world, seeing that I just sold the 04 SVTF. I was wondering, are you able to run a 4# pulley with out chipping it or changing the programing? I have a CAI on the way, but not sure if I have to invest in a Predator before I put the pulley in, or if I can get away with the pulley alone. :wtf: I'll say thanks in advance, since you guys are always helpful. Look forward to seeing you all Sunday!
Thanks much,
Chad

You can also check www.nloc.net for more info... but...
Some have run 4lb lowers without a chip and reported acceptable air fuel ratios in the 11's. You definately won't get every ounce of power out of it as the stock timing levels are much lower than the custom tunes, but it'd probably be safer considering how rich the stock tune is as well.
If it's a 99, you'll want to check into getting a 90mm MAF for it. The 80mm that comes in those will work fine, but you may come close to maxing it out with higher boost levels. If you get the MAF, I believe you'd need to get the chip/predator to tune for that anyways as it'd change incoming air volume drastically.
It sounds like you're well out of warranty so you really have no worries on chipping/predator-ing the truck. Just do it safely, and get a custom dyno tune or wideband so you can watch air fuel ratios. These trucks aren't known for their ability to take detonation well at all. Just be safe about it and you'll be fine.
But check out that site also :)

Chad, get a chip or the Predator before putting a 4#er on. Some may have done it safely but the odds are against you IMO.
Too bad I didn't know you were looking for a CAI, I have a JLP set up from my old 99 I could have sold you cheap. What kind of CAI are you getting?

I've got a MAC CAI on the way. If that one doesn't work out, I guess I can always see if you still have your JLP yet. I know I should get a Pred, but the cost and some of the stories I've heard, scare me away. I'm not sure yet at this point. I will probably just hold off and get the Preator first, and go crazy from there. If you hear of anyone wanting to sell their Pred, please let me know! See ya Sunday?

Well, the Predator is the Cadillac of tuning tools but IMO there is nothing wrong with going with a single or even a switch chip for $200 to $250. Some tuners probably have package deals on a chip and pulley. Then the next question is are you getting a caged or uncaged pulley?
BTW, Cardinal Red?

I've seen many a chip go for 100 bux used.
In fact I think I know someone that was looking to sell his, not sure on price though.

Chad, I forgot to ask, did the intercooler get changed out during the Ford replacement program?

Cardinal Red was the official color that the Ford dealership told me. Red is red... I think I'm going for the predator. I did a lot of searching on nloc.net, and there are some bad stories, but I think it is more user error than anything. To many good stories and rants about it, so that will be my choice. As for the pulley, I'm thinking RPMOutlets Motoblue QC Lower pulley kit. Then if I ever want to go for more boost further down the road, it will be easy.

Seriously though, get a dyno tune whatever tuning device you use. Speed Inc. in chicago can do custom dyno tunes for predators i know.
I think the dealership was totally wrong... correct color is: arrest me red

Good news on the intercooler. That saved you $750 plus labor. :)
For the record, red 99 to 04 L's are Bright Red Clearcoat. :D

I called SVT today to have them check the vin for recalls, and they said it WAS NOT done. I'm pretty pissed that the dealership told me it had been done. I called the dealership and started chewing them a new a$$hole because they lied to me. I then asked if it was possible to have it done, and it would have to be out of my pocket... I should have just called SVT in the first place!! And i did a little looking into about the color too. Bright Red Clearcoat it is, and I told the dealership that as well. Needless to say, I'm not to pleased with them right now. On the better side, I'm going to the drags tonight to get a solid dialin time before the mods. Should be fun! See ya guys Sunday!

Well it's possible you have a non-leaker intercooler, just keep an eye on the reservoir. You'll eventually need to do it though I'm sure. From what I understand, the replacement intake will also add some power too.

I highly recommend a FTVB, it should be one of your first mods. You will just love the way your truck shifts:bna:

I'll second the FTVB along with a deep 4X4 trans pan. Shifts great and extends the life of the transmsiion.
