This is why I wasn\'t at GLD. I was taking my son, Eric, to Tempe Arizona so that he can enroll in a GIS program. His sister, Andrea, has already graduated at ASU and still lives there. Anywho, we have the 1992 Sable wagon with 102,000 miles loaded for bear. We leave Saturday morning. After 700 miles of cranking, the engine suddenly dies on I-80 in middle of nowheres. We let it sit a while and it starts. Seven miles, it dies. We limp to a rest stop. No phones. hummmm, I bet it is the fuel pump. I back over a water sprinkler on the rest stop lawn and cool offf the tank and pump. We get another 50 miles. It is 5:30 PM, Saturday. We are stuck in Ogalla. We eat, get some cool gas, and after several engine quits, we get the car to Sterling Colorado. Next morning, we get to Denver, where it dies on a freeway with NO SHOULDERS! We practically use the starter to get off the freeway. That\'s it. We will fix it the next day (its Sunday). Time to buy a 12 pack and lay in the pool. I find a Blue Oval certified dealer only 3 miles away. Monday, at 7 AM, we are at the door. They fix it in 5 hours. Meanwhile, we rent a Focus (unfortunately, not an SVT) and tour the I-70 valley, all the way to Vail. I took pictures of some roundabouts and cranked back to Denver to get the car. We made Santa Fe that evening, Tempe the next afternoon, with a drive through the forest fire area.
Any guesses on what it cost to replace a fuel pump and filter?
$680. (I bent over very politely):o
PS. I have driven one million miles on Fords. My record is still intact: \"I have never had my Ford towed\" [But this came close]
