We will be meeting again this year at Aldo's Pizzeria for the Daytona 500 at 12:00 PM on February 15. Green flag drops at 12:30 PM. :shft

It should be an interesting year for Nascar with the new point system, new series sponsor, aero rule changes, tire rule changes, Matt Kenseth defending his title, etc. Even if you aren't a regular race fan come down for some good pizza and maybe win a door prize.

Come early for a great breakfast buffet that Aldo's has every Sunday morning. ;)

Aldo's is at W156 N11058 Pilgrim Road, Germantown, WI 53022 (just south of Mequon Road on Pilgrim) Phone: (262)255-7777.

Aldo's is a great place. The best breakfast buffet in the area. Good B' Mary's, too.

The race is a lot of fun when you are with freinds - especially Ford fans :D

Last year, we had a good turn out. Unfortunately, the race went through delays, for rain. :(

This year, the Fords have more down force, less drag, and more power. This might break the DEI strangle hold on the restrictor plate tracks. :bna:

I'm bringing some raffle prizes. If you have any thing you would like to "regift", now is your chance.

Hmmm, do you think anyone would want the old spoiler from the 'tour? :o

If anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about, see my post in the SVT Contour owners thread in General Discussion.

I'm not really a race fan, but I'd love to meet up with you guys, so I will probably come out

I bet Dale kind of surprised a few people with the new Ford engine they have. Could be a great year again for Ford. Maybe Matt can win a few races and repeat as Champion. Of course they may change the point system if he does again. Can't let those northern boys win the championship, can they??

I agree the Fords are looking good and were most likely laying in the weeds. Hey, you can't blame them, everybody does it!!! ;) The new head and aero package was long over due. Last year there was one Ford in the top ten!?!? Give me a break!!!! All of the talk about Kenseth winning the Cup with only one victory really irks me!!! He earned it just like everyone else earned their Cup in the Modern Day Points system.

So now the points system gets changed?!?!? Now this new system I think can somehow be manipulated by Nascar because they are the only ones who truly know how the system will work? I am ABSOLUTELY convinced that Nascar WILL figure out a way to manipulate the system to hand Little "E" a championship!!!!!!! (mark my words!!) Nascar=Greed and anyway they can boost fan base (look at Little "E's" July Daytona victory after the old man was killed. Have you ever in your life seen a car in a restrictor plate race do what the 8 car did? I've never seen it?) they will stop at nothing to promote their own adgenda.

Now Toyota's coming!!! :fryem: :bash:

OK, I'll get off my soapbox now!!! LOL!! :p

I couldn't believe it when I read that Ford had not been allowed a engine head revision since 1992. Here is a recent article I found:

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.(AP) As good as his cars have been in winning the Budweiser Shootout and sweeping the front row for Sunday's Daytona 500, Ford racing boss Dan Davis insists there's more to come.

Late last year, NASCAR finally answered Ford's long-standing lobbying for a new cylinder head for its stock car engines. Ford hadn't gotten a new cylinder head since 1992, while its competitors came up with all new engines in the intervening years.

"We're not looking for any killer jumps," Davis said Tuesday at Daytona International Speedway as the cars practicing for the 500 roared in the background. "All we want is to be on the same page as our competitors."

The improvement in Ford power this year is directly related to the new engine-building alliance between longtime Ford teams Robert Yates Racing and Roush Racing.

Davis, with a mischievous smile, said, "Man, it's like the Hatfields and the McCoys getting along. But it's wonderful."

It's obvious the new arrangement between Robert Yates and Jack Roush is already paying dividends with the latest engines combining the strengths of both but Davis points out that the new cylinder head won't be making any real impact until at least midseason.

"It's going to take at least that long for it to get up and running completely, and that's just the beginning of the development," Davis said. "Don't forget, we maxed out the development of the old cylinder head about six or seven years ago after having it for so long. It's going to take a while to get the biggest benefit from the new one."

My feeling on the people who criticize the merits of Kenseth's championship never had an understanding of what a NASCAR championship was originally designed to represent. In a sport whose season lasts nearly 10 months over 36 races, CONSISTENCY always has been and always should be the hallmark of the eventual champion of NASCAR. The changes that the new system brings, raises many issues in addition to the apparent shift from rewarding consistency over the course of a season.

What effect this will have on team sponsorships is yet to be determined but I can't see those perennial second tier sponsors being excited about even more attention being brought to the top 10 at the end of the season. It will split the season into 2 separate seasons and the last 10 races do not include all the types of tracks that make up a typical NASCAR season. Do these changes make the season's opening race and "Super Bowl" of NASCAR, the Daytona 500, a less important race than it traditionally has been? Does separating the top 10 in the last 10 races by only 5 point increments introduce a greater factor of luck into the championship chase than already exists? Who knows. These are only some of the issues related to this issue. I pesonally just don't see the need to change the method in which the fastest growing sport in the country crowns its champion.

However, I will say that when Richard Petty was asked about the points system changes, he more or less stated that the France family has made all the right decisions to get NASCAR where it is today and basically had no comment either way which made me think. I guess they are all, top 10 in the standings or not, still racing to win every race.

Well, I'll get off my soapbox now and go program the VCR to record the Twin 125's tomorrow.

Oh and by the way, Ford also won the pole for the Friday night truck race tonight. :bna: :bna: :bna:

It's going to be an interesting year! :D

While waiting fo the rain to subside in "sunny" Florida, during the running of the Hershey Kiss's BGN 300, I thought I would post.... SVTOA Wisconsin officers will be bringing a lot of door prizes. Also, we will pick driver names before the race, like last year. Come early - I would like to have all 43 drivers assigned to you before they drop the checkered flag (11:30 AM). [Whoops, edited to 11:30 AM - CST. BTW, the time posted on the home page is EST - don't be late.]
