You probably noticed that an upcoming Wisconsin SVTOA event is a High-Speed Autocross (AX) at Blackhawk Farms Raceway (BFR). Great Lakes Sport Car Club (GLSCC), one of nine clubs within the Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs (MC), is holding an Autocross on Saturday, September 27 and sports car races on the following Sunday. Fellow SVTOA members Bruce C., Ken K. and Chris L. are members of GLSCC, so you know they will be there.
The AX begins with registration and tech inspection at 7 AM. Since I will be involved with tech, I know that we will be ready for you at 6:45 AM. So get to the track early. [BHF is about 1.5 hours from Milwaukee, 3 miles SW of South Beloit, WI.] Drivers Meeting is at 8 AM and on-track practice for 9 groups of vehicles begin at 8:30 AM. This will be in a similar format as the Northwoods On-Track event, except passing is permitted only at two locations. Re-entry to the paddock is from the "back gate", or after Turn/Station 4, for both practice and timed runs. After approximately three practice sessions and a lunch break, we will begin timed runs, by Class/Category. Three one-lap runs are certain, four are possible. Trophy presentation is at 6:30. An added bonus - free refreshments and food will be provided afterwards.
GLSCC will be giving MANY door prizes and driver contingency awards. Even if you don't run, you will have a great time at this event.
:bna:
Cost is $105 ($80 for MC members, $45 for GLSCC members). Pre-registration is HIGHLY recommended. Long sleeve shirts, long pants and a Snell SA90 or M90 helmet is required (no loaners). For most of our vehicles, a 4 or 5-point harness system is required, especially if you have mods (no exceptions). I will have extra entry forms available at Wayne's. Or, write a message to thorst@hntb.com if you desire a facsimile entry form sent to you. If you don't know what Class/Category you belong, you can also leave a message. Please provide me with the make, model, year, and complete list of mods performed on the vehicle, including tire brand/model.
Let me know on this thread if you will (or might) attend. See you at the track!
:D

Hi Terry:
Thanks for posting this. I will most likely be there also. I need some help classing my car though. It will be my first Auto-X. 2000 Cobra "R" full roll cage, subs, matrix braces, jacking rails and six point harnesses. Are the BFG-KD's and Hoosiers classed the same?
Is there room in the paddock for a truck and trailer?
I'm looking forward to seeing you all there.

I'm gald you guys are going. That makes for a good Cobra turnout (Even though Chris will probably bring the "big" rod).
Bruce - There is plenty of room for parking. Gary and I usually park between the back gate (between Station 4 and 5) and the tech barn. He has a dark red crew cab power stroke.
Your R-model is Class X. You begin with a "stock" 3 point assessment, to keep you from dominating the late-model Corvettes in X-stock (XS). So, you begin in X-Prepared (XP). The good news is that the chassis stiffening and the DOT-rated "special" KD tires will add only 1 and 3 points, respectively. Since X-Modified doesn't begin until 8 points are assessed, you will be able to run in XP. This is where the stock Z06 runs. Here Kitty Kitty.
:fryem:
If the Hoosiers are not a DOT-legal tire, and you choose to run those, you will be in A-Race (AR), the fastest class/category. Of course, you can always enter twice and run both sets of tires.
:bna:
AR is where Ron Adee runs his insane Viper, Dodge Truck  or Z06. A perrenial C+D One Lap of America winner.
Marv - Your 01 Cobra is Class A. You begin with a "stock" 4 point assessment, to keep you from dominating the late-model Mustang GT's, Camaros, and C4's. The good news is that the 03 wheels and springs will add only 1 and 2 points, respectively. This is AP. If you have other mods, including chassis stiffening or gears, then you will run in AM. Or, do what I plan to do. Run in the new Restricted Street class (RS). Mods are open, but tires must be DOT-legal. Either case, you will need 4/5-point harness system.
Good Luck! :)

No L for Blackhawk (too many mods and no harness :( ), so it's the Cobra.
I think I'll try my hand at the Street Modified class this time. :D
Anyone coming down to tech early and staying the night Friday? I'll be there for registration 6 to 9 PM on Friday.

Terry:
Thanks for the help. I will most likely just run the KD's and avoid the race class :bash: They'd make mince meat out of me.
Chris:
I will probably get there at the butt crack of dawn Saturday.

Terry:
Are you sure the cost is $45.00 for us GLSCC members?
Thanks,

...finally pays off. Yep, $45 AX fee for us GLSCC members. Don't forget, you also have to be a "worker". I signed up for Tec Inspection on Saturday and Flat Tow on Sunday. A VERY cushy job. :D

Bruce, thanks for the kind words. Those 32 years of BFR "visits are finally beginning to take hold. :D
Bruce, Chris, and Marv all ran strong, as well. Marv was particularly impressive for his first time at BFR - a track with many technical challenges.
On behalf of GLSCC, I want to extend a big thanks to Mike, who came down with Marv "just to work". It was cold and windy most of the day, but Mike stuck it out at Corner 7 all day. Thanks for your help Mike!

It was a cold cold day but well worth it. I owe a lot the folks at GLSCC for a memorable day. It will not be a track event soon forgotten. I also owe a special thank you to Terry who talked me into being a corner worker for a day.
Talk about excitement. I have never seen anything previously that can compare to the excitement on corner 7 at Blackhawk Farms this past Saturday. Spining Camaros and Corvettes doing agricultural driving. Many sliding Mustangs and at least one rolling Mustang for all to see. But the highlight of the day was a silver Cobra that took six wheels off in a single corner (yes the Cobra had a standard compliment of 4 wheels). First two wheels off on the right, then four wheels off on the left, then two gravel filled rooster tails, a cloud of dust, squealing tires and finally my co-worker shouting "Hio Silver Away". After we stopped laughing he said "who was that" (meaning what was the car number)? To which I replyed "I don't know he was wearing a helmet" and more laughter.
After we picked ourselves up off the ground for the second time there followed a hilarious radio exchange with track control. It went something like this. Corner 7 to control. Go ahead corner 7. Control, a silver Mustang, number 60, 6 wheels off, driver continued, no flags, track clear. Corner 7, silver mustang, number 60, how many wheels off? Control, 6 wheels off. Corner 7 how many wheels off? Control, 6 wheels off. Corner 7, was it 2 wheels or 4 wheels off? Control, 6 wheels off. Corner 7 were marking it 4 wheels off. At that point I said "they probably think were smoking something". Sure enough, about 5 minutes later another corner worker shows up and announces "control thinks you can use another set of eyes out here".
Can you guess who the helmeted man is that rides in a silver Mustang? Was it Chris? Bruce? Marv? Terry? A correct answer will not get you a silver bullet (Ford didn't make them in silver) but it will get you free Pizza and soda at the October Shop Talk.

Just want to say that a good part of my success at the track was due to Terry. He drove us around the track at lunch break and showed me the proper line. I was having problems earlier in the day figuring the place out. Once again it was a great time and this is what our SVT cars were made for!!! Oh and it wasn't me in turn 7!!!! Marv Z:)
