The Northwoods Shelby American Club has extended a special invitation to SVTOA members to join them Sunday September 7th for On Track Touring at Road America. Road America is a 4-mile, 14 Turn marvel of asphalt that winds through the beautiful Kettle Moraine of Wisconsin. The track is less than 90 minutes from Milwaukee. This event operates similar to an SVTOA On Track event.

Participants are divided into 5 groups based on the experience of the driver and type of car. Each group then runs 20 minute sessions and each participant can expect the opportunity to run at least 4 to likely 5 such sessions. Registration and tech start at 7:00 a.m. at ROAD AMERICA. Tech will be open until 9:00 a.m. There will be a mandatory driver's meeting for those participating in the paddock area across from the Start/Finish line at 7:45 a.m. No passing is allowed in corners or in any of the braking zones. You will be able to take one passenger (must 18 or older) at a time (with approved Helmet and Belts). You will also be able to make passenger changes in the pits in the approved passenger pick-up area. This is a touring event, NOT A RACE!

7:00 AM to 12:00 PM - Registration at Road America.
7:00 AM to 9:00 AM - Tech Inspection at Tech Building
7:45 AM - Drivers Meeting for Sundays Touring in Paddock across from the Start/ Finish Line.
8:00 AM - Touring Begins Following Drivers Meeting.
12:00 PM to 1:00 PM - Lunch Hour
1:00 PM to 6:00 PM - Touring Resumes
7:00 PM - Track Closes

If interested please contact Mike Tagtow, SVTOA Wisconsin Chapter Director, via email (please include a phone number in your message) mtagtow@robertsonryan.com as soon as possible. Space is limited. This is an exceptional opportunity for our members.

If you wish to participate as an observer only you can join us at Road America at no cost.

Convertibles are required to have a 4 Point Roll Bar. All drivers and passengers must wear approved helmets. All helmets must have a Snell Rating of 90 or newer (motorcycle helmets are acceptable if they are M90 or later).

Cost of the event is $155 which includes a $20 charge to join the Northwoods Shelby Club. Like SVTOA the Northwoods Shelby Club insurance allows only members to participate.

Thanks, I just found their page about the event.

If you go to http://www.nwshelbyclub.com/mireg2003.doc and scroll down, you will find a specific listing of what they will be looking at during tech also.

Dave:

I have good news and bad news. The good news is yes, I have a passenger seat. :D

The bad news is I have a loooooooooong line of family and friends waiting for rides that will be up at the track on Friday and Sunday!:( Even people who don't know what a Cobra "R" is want a ride in that thing. Kinda sucks, I know.

To everyone who hasn't been to RA and may not know the track, go to http://www.roadamerica.com/images/maps/2002color.pdf for a map of the track. You will do yourself a big favor by knowing the track well. ;)

They used to have a download that would take you around the track in a car but that seems to be removed from their site. You can go to www.roadamerica.com for more info and directions.

Here is a link from the (cough) Midwest F-Body association.

http://www.speedseekers.com/picsandvids.html

Go towards the bottom of the page and there is a videos section (I hope you have cable!!! LOL) you can down load some videos of a guy lapping Road America in a Z06 Corvette. (Sorry once again! LOL)

If you down load these videos and watch them repeatedly, you will get the hang of the track and what to expect when you get there and drive it. It will help to have a track map also which can be obtained at the Road America website.

See you all there!!!!

Well, we all had a great time and came home with all our fenders on. Greg took some great shots that you can see in the gallery, thanks Greg!

You can see the pics at http://www.wisvtoa.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=508&password=

Bruce was also there but didn't get a shot of him and his R. I was lucky enough to get a ride though and what a ride it was. Thanks Bruce

Glad you enjoyed the ride Chris. :D

Too bad I had the problem with my Hoosiers and couldn't run them. They are about four seconds quicker per lap! :bna:

What a photogenic group of guys (and you too, Kate!)

Sorry that I couldn't get up there. (Actually, it would have been harder getting up there and then not run.) I'm glad that all had a good time on the track.

Fast, isn't it?

Marv, I heard you left RA in mid-afternoon. Rumor has it that you needed to get to Slinger Speedway in time to register for the Sunday night SPECTATOR RACES!

:D

[I know a guy that did this with his 93 Cobra.]

I thought about it, but they won't let me run because of prior experience. Might have to give Black Hawk Farms a shot. Uh oh, I think I might be Hooked!!! I love the smell of burning rubber and brakes in the morning!!!:) Marv Z

Had a great time at great time at Road America!!!!!! It was good to see so many club members driving their SVT's the way they were ment to be driven. The 03 did better than I would have guessed it would. Now if I could drive the to it's full potental, I know, practice, practice, practice!!!!!!Well it was a blast even if I took about 10,000 miles off the F1's:)
