Mike T. and I are headed for Clermont, Indiana on Thursday, July 24 for a two day On-track event at Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP). Friday is track time and in the evening we gather at Kenny Brown. Saturday, more track time. That evening, we head home since the Soerens Ford show is Sunday, but the event at IRP continues with drag day (for cars, not guys that dress up). There is also the opportunity for dyno runs at Kenny Brown's shop.
:)
Anyone else interested in going? See SVT national for more information.
BTW, we got a 2.5 star (out of 3) hotel on priceline.com dirt cheap. :D

I'm getting settled in. Moved into my Indy house on June 23 so it has taken me a while to get the garage set up and the Cobra cleaned up. So the IRP event was the first event I attended since leaving Wisconsin. I plan on getting involved with the INDYSVTOA. Their next meeting is August 18th. I also have found out about a autocross club that run at the Columbus airport. So I hope to get back on track soon. It was nice talking to Mike and Terry this past weekend

Being a member of SVTOA presents many opportunities to drive you car where there are no speed limits other than your own. The SVTOA Indianapolis Race Park Invasion was one of those. So this past week I ventured to Indianapolis with my 97 Cobra as did fellow chapter members Terry Horst in his 01 Cobra and Jeff Fehr in his 02 Lightning for 2 days of On Track driving.
Friday July 25th found 52 entrants ready to go. We broke into 4 run groups with novice drivers in groups 1 & 2, intermediate drivers in group 3, and the instructors and advanced drivers in group 4. While groups 4 & 3 enjoyed On Track time in the early morning groups 1 & 2 practiced braking and turning with a parking lot auto-cross. The afternoon found all groups on track for multiple 20 minute sessions.
Friday evening found us at Kenny Brown where we were treated to dinner. During the dinner there were briefings by representatives from Pirelli Tire and Baer Brakes. Those were followed by Kenny Brown sharing some of his experiences. At the conclusion Kenny Brown himself and his staff ran members cars on his Dyno. Watching the numbers it was apparent SVT owners do like to modify cars.
Saturday found 63 entrants with group 4 taking the first session. Unfortunately one of the instructors misjudged a corner and found himself on top of more than 4 tires. Damage was mostly to the ego and the rest was erased with some rubbing compound. Group 3 then took to the track. A spin out damaged the fender of a 03 Cobra and removed a portion of track fence. Following that, the day proceeded without further mishap although short a couple sessions due the delays in cleaning up the track. In total we all had 4 sessions.
Kenny Brown driving Kermit joined us on Saturday and the event participants could, for a $20 donation to charity, experience a hot lap. Needless to say, if a run was made during your session you were passed.
Thanks to Rich and Jeff we have pictures and I have posted them in the Photo Gallery under WISVTOA Events.
