My son Jeff is taking the Lightning to get Dynoed today at Borcharts I believe. Thats his Lightning we are all sitting or standing at on the web front page. Wants to get it so he can run under 12 secs. at the Grove this summer.
I wonder what it will show in HP? Any guesses??

Under 12? It'd be right about 500hp/580tq to hit right around 12.0's... but that's based on alot of the internet comparisons too.

TESTED AT 417 HP
Had the test done Sat. and they got 417 HP at the rear wheels. That seems great but I wonder what it would be at the engine?
Think about 500 HP?

Is that corrected hp? But what's the real number... torque? HP is merely a function of torque. With that number he should be voer 500tq i think. I know that with an automatic transmission an 11% drivetrain loss is very conservative as far as labeling the loss goes. With that you'd be at 462...
15% is 472
20% is exactly 500
so it really depends on what the loss is in an automatic drivertrain... i honestly have no idea what a realistic loss factor is for an auto drivetrain, let alone a beefier one made for a ~5000lb truck.
Maybe greg knows a realistic loss for a "slushbox" ;)

Have to find out all the results when I see my Son later this week. He must have gotten a printout.

Anyone going sometime?
My friends keep pooping out on me and I still have not been there since Blower install and Dyno-tune.
Hate to go alone :p

After some minor changes the L was retested as Borcherts didn't get it right the 1st time. Now HP at rear wheels is 470.
THAT RIGHT 470 HP
Just signed up for IRP later this month too.

Question on Dyno testing at Borcherts.
Do they give O2 reading??
Will they Tune a car??

Yes, I believe they tuned it for him but not sure about O2?
I will see my son tomorrow & find out everything & then post the results.

I looked at all the printouts he got but didn't see any O2 stuff. Guess u should give Borcharts a call to see if they do what u want. I did see 570 Torque at rear wheels.

No O2 readings? That's the uber important thing in the L as they are very sensitive to detonation. it's even more so important because based on everything I read on the internet, the people who start to get close to 500hp are the ones who start to ruin stock shortblocks. That's not saying the stock shortblock isnt rated higher, that is just the gray area where problems start to occur on average.
May his rods live long and prosper :)
I wouldn't trust borchardts to tune my truck. Mainly because in order to tune it they need software to burn a new chip. Timing cannot be adjusted, nor can fuel curve or any other parameters be adjusted without the chip burning stuff. If they don't even offer air fuel, I'd never go there as that's the only reason I'd dyno around this area. There are no places to tune an L chip in wisconsin.

I have made an appointment with them later this week and according to them they will give a air/fuel reading. for an additional charge. I am taking my TBird there to get some base line number so that I can get the computer set up closer then it is now. I will give an update on what info I get from them.

See, it pays to call and ask, as I don't know all that stuff or what to look for. This was on my sons L anyway.
Good Luck & keep us posted.
PS - My Pro shifter came in the mail today.

Ooh... more toys... I'm afraid I'm going to need to test drive and confirm it's proper operation however ;)

It really does sound great, THANKS.
Installed the Pro shifter today. I think a Steeda CAI system is next.
That should about do it then for us.

Hi Dave
Did you see the the link on the fastfords web sit on the 2002 Lighting dyno tune results.
636 rwhp@ 5000 &
777 torque @2500
Here is the link http://www.realfords.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1361
I bet he can smoke some tires now:) :)

No I didn't see that one, but there's a select few putting down those types of #'s. That would be sooo sweet if I had that kind of cash :D

Here are the exact results from the Dyno..
At the rear wheels I ran 451 RWHP with 589 FT/LBS of Torque. The intake temp was 95 degress due to the extreamly hot weather outside.....
I had amber perform a wideband air/fuel readding on all my runs.
They do not tune your vehicle but they will allow you time to make changes and allow your truck to cool down..
I was making chip swaps on my computer to try different settings....
I was happy with my a/f of under 12.0
across the board......
I should be close to the 480 range by fall with the final tweaksmm With slicks U will be an 11.7 run..
If you are dyno'ing your L with an automatic there is some special ways to perform it otherwise you will get false readings..
Overdrive off.... Drive your vechicle to 69 MPH ... once you reach this speed ... YOu will be in 3rd gear and then you will have your convertor locked. At this point....
Step on the gas... You will be doing your plots from 3000 RPM to 5800 RPM....
Do not perform a run from 0MPH to 140 MPH you will get false HP readings due to the computer compensating for shifts..
