We have decided to install the Pro 5.0 shifter in our 2003 Cobra. Found a MGW shifter handle that looks like it would be a great install with the shifter also. A better angle for shifting. Has anyone installed the Pro 5.0 & if so is the MGW shifter handle necessary??
Also, if I have the shifter out I will replace the tranny fluid too.
The SVT engineer people at the 100th said that they would replace the shifter as a good upgrade.
They also said the Steeda was as good as the Pro- 5.0

From what I read on BON, the Pro-5.0 is well-liked. However, the Steeda is also a favorite by many. I have the Steeda, and like it slightly better than the B&M that was in my 99. Both the B&M and Steeda make a vibration noise at highway speed - a trait of all aftermarket shifters when the rubber isolators are removed from the handle. For me, it is a worthy trade-off, compared to missed shifts, bent forks, and a lousy shift 'feel' of the stock shifter.

I'm certainly now expert on the '03's but I don't think tranny fluid has to be changed as the new shifter install should be a remove and replace exercise done from the topside in the car.

U are right but I was told as long as I had the top off to just open the drain plug & install new synthetic tranny fluid through the opening. Can't hurt !

Then it's definately a diffferent set up than what I have seen and done in the past.
Anyone else have any thoughts?

I'll wait to hear more too. I will have my son do it as my back operation will keep me from doing things like that for a while. They tell me its a world of difference with a new shifter on. I tryed someones Cobra at the IceBreaker & it felt great shifting it. Nice short throws.

Here is a link to a step by step install of a Pro 5.0 shifter in an '03.

It is similar to what I thought, the shifter is just a drop in unit to the linkage assembly of the tranny. Shifter replacement and tranny fluid don't have any common links while doing this mod.
Hope it helps.

Perfect website, just what I needed. I think I will install the MGW handle too. I guess if I want to change the tranny fluid I have to get under the car. The ford Fluid is OK for now.
Thanks Again:) :) :)

Before Steeda had the Tri-Ax, they sold Kirban's (which is what I have). However the attach screws are the same thread as stock.
I was able to adapt the stock lever with isolator to the Kirban. Its not 100% as firm, but I still get the positive stops (yeah I broke a shifter fork once...) and its still WAY tighter than stock. I have VERY little shifter buzz. I shortened the throw by chopping out a few inches from the center of the stock shifter and welding the 'ends' back together. I had to grind away on the metal retainer of the isolator but that was cake.
I am not sure if the newer T-56 shifter is the same style ( I would assume so).
Just my plug for getting the best of both worlds. I should be at Porgie's on the 5th, just ask, I'll pop the boot.
