We apologize for not getting this wrapped up sooner but, as we had talked about at the Annual Meeting in December, we have made arrangements for regular informal member gatherings at 6:30 PM on the third Wednesday of every month beginning January 15, 2003. While the concept may need some tweaking, this is the plan:

Shop Talk will be held during the months of October through April and we will gather at the Griffin Ford Shop (not the Used Car building where we have previously held our board meetings). This facility will allow a club member or Griffin to bring a car or truck of interest inside and we will have the use of the Lunch Room for round table discussion of the current hot SVT topics, upcoming events, and general conversation among ourselves. Mike has arranged for Griffin Ford to pick up the tab for pizza and soda (thanks Vilas! :D) so come hungry and be ready to Talk Shop!

During the months of May through September, we will gather at some more traditional "Drive-in" type places around town like Wayne's, Georgie Porgie's, the Kiltie, etc. (event name pending). This will hopefully make it so there is a place to gather throughout the Summer that is in your neck of the woods. This will also give us a chance to show off our rides a little as well as to get a look at the competition. Understandably, pizza will not be provided by Griffin at these Drive-in events but hopefully some sort of special can be worked out for members at these establishments. These dates may fall on a date other than the third Wednesday in order to catch the "hot night" at each establishment but we will shoot for the third week of every month to keep it somewhat consistent.

I am hoping many of you can make it as not only do we need more member input on some outstanding upcoming event issues but, more importantly, come out to get to know your fellow SVTOA members a little better and share some of your car experiences, good or bad. Let's put some faces to User names!

Hi Chris, how are you doing?
This sounds like a cool idea. It'll help keep me abreast of what the "competition" is up to.;)

Oh yeah, and there's free pizza...

Well maybe not, but they announce the winner then.

Looks like we will be having a great year. Sorry I won't be able to make any events till after March 24th as we are forced to go down to Florida for 10 weeks.
Have to do it!

Regarding the calendar function, take a look at GLD's Website (http://www.greatlakesdragaway.com) and see the hacks I have done to the calendar to make it easier to use. When I get time I will install the hacks here. It makes navigating the calendar much easier...

Please note the change in location in the original post, we are now meeting in the Griffin Shop (where the Icebreaker was held). This will allow us more room to get cars and trucks in and out and I am told we will have a lift available! We will be using the mechanics lunchroom for pizza and discussion.

Griffin is providing the Mach 1 that will be displayed at the Auto Show. It is likely that it will be on the premises Wednesday the 15th.

Sweet:bna: :bna: If I was to bring a camera to take pics of the mach 1 do you think they would be mad??? So, do we come in through the front or do we go right into the shop?? Never been in the shop area at griffin, but I have been on the grounds. Drooling
on the powerstroke diesels:) :)

Great Question! Griffin has asked that you stop in the service area and tell a service writer that you are looking for the SVT meeting. In turn you will be directed to the meeting area. This is requested as to get to our meeting area requires a walk through the main shop area (open until midnight during the week) where civilians are not usally allowed.

Weather permitting--- If for some reason Griffin will not have their Mach 1 at the meeting, I will bring mine if anyone is interested. Keep me posted and we'll see you all on Wed. the 15th.

Shop Talk in concept is not a meeting but rather a time for members to gather on an informal basis. That said Griffin Ford will be sharing at the gatherings a look at new product and other information that will be of interest to the group. Members are invited to similarly share with the group information of interest and bring their special cars (show and tell). As we go forward times and dates will be changed as necessary to accomodate the members.

As a chapter we will have in addition to the 12 monthly Shop Talk and Drive In gatherings 10 to 12 events events planned primarily for weekend dates.

Hey Tony:

Glad you liked "Gwen" She is the sweetest of the sweet! I just love her too.

I can't wait to get her on the track in April with the F-Body group at Road America. I have a feeling "she" will be driving me for a while until I get used to her. But I have ridden in one of these cars at speed on a road course and they are very forgiving.

I'm looking for events to go to and it's like finding 'chicken teeth'! LOL Keep me up to speed on any event and I'll be glad to bring her around for a little 'workout' ;)

Cheers:beer: :bna: :bna:

In my case it takes a special vehicle and a special experience or person.

I have had my '89 SHO for 13 years and although I love the car and it is kind of special, it just is not quite special enough to receive a name yet I guess?

Lots of vehicles, but only two with names

I see from a post 12 months ago, I said...

1989 Taurus wagon - Fredrick Thomas Taurus (Tommy)
2000 Sable - Herc the Merc
1992 Sable wagon - Sally Mable Ann Sable
1995 Contour SE - Cody Elizabeth Contour
1994 Lincoln Mark VIII - Ruby

Formerly owned:
1995 Contour - Maurice (renamed Phillip Maurice, "smokey", after we discovered our son smoked in the car)
1999 Cobra (Electric Green) - Coleen
1999 Cobra (Rio Red) - Tiffany [sounds naughty, heh? She was named after my salesman's former girl freind, whom he dated until he found out about her night job. She was a stripper!! ]

Here is an update...

Tommy Taurus died in Indiana [RIP] last September ...a moment of silence, please. He died of old age, with 289,000 miles behind him.:(

Cody Elizabeth also turned ill. Sold on eBay to good doctor.

Ruby was sold, to a real doctor. He was torn between a Lexus and the Mark. He loves Ruby. A good ol' girl.

We miss them all, so we became friends with a new pal. We bought a red Ranger (thanks Pete!). My wife named him Gus...He's simple and a straight-up guy, like the Beaver's fireman friend.

Last February, I brought home a 01 Cobra from Texas. Hence, she is named a good ol' Texas cowgirl's name...Ileen

Sally and Ileen are parked outside. Gus and Herc rule the garage.
